This year, the road safety prize will be awarded for the 43rd time under the patronage of the district administrator of the Rhine-Erft district. The Rhein-Erft-Kreis Road Traffic Office, Kreissparkasse Köln and Deutsche Verkehrswacht Rhein-Erft e.V.
Being mobile by bike or pedelec is an expression of quality of life. The idea of getting around in an environmentally friendly and resource-saving way is in vogue. While the mobility behavior of older people relates more to the leisure and health aspects, many children and young people also use bicycles to get to school. Unfortunately, high accident figures involving cyclists are the flip side of this development. Many children up to the age of 14 are demonstrably unable to cope with complex traffic situations. Road users still misjudge the higher speeds of pedelec riders.
The aim of the Road Safety Award 2024 is to promote safe road use by bicycle and pedelec. This year, primary school pupils and their grandparents are taking part in a driving and safety training course. The practical exercises on the course promote safe riding of a bicycle or pedelec.
Who can take part
All primary and special schools in the Rhine-Erft district have the opportunity to take part in the Road Safety Award 2024 with their third and fourth grade. Pupils form a so-called "generation team" together with an adult (50 years or older). The team takes part in the driving and safety course together. The focus here is exclusively on safely completing the course - not the competition.
If your school is interested in taking part in the road safety prize,
please contact your local road safety advisors at the Rhein-Erft-Kreis police station or send an email to vsp.rhein-erft-kreis [at] polizei.nrw.de.
Prize presentation
The cash prizes will be awarded to the schools with the largest number of "generation teams" participating in the course as a percentage of the total number of pupils in the third and fourth school years. The Rhine-Erft district police will notify the winners.
Notes
All local primary and special schools in the Rhine-Erft district are eligible to take part. The winning schools will be notified in writing by the Rhein-Erft district police. Prizes will only be awarded to representatives of the participating schools or their authorized representatives who are present on the day of the closing event. It is not possible to transfer the prizes to other persons or institutions.
