Mile of Democracy
The "Mile of Democracy" will be set up between the state parliament and the state chancellery on August 26 and 27. The banks of the Rhine will be transformed into an exciting and interactive hands-on area with a stage program and numerous stands from all ministries and various state foundations.
At the many different stands, you can get an impression of how complex and multifaceted the work of the state government is, what topics the ministries deal with and what career opportunities there are in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The Ministry of the Interior presents itself in a variety of ways directly in front of the state parliament.
In one part of the area, the North Rhine-Westphalia police will be showcasing the most innovative technology: marvel at the patrol car of the future, visit a rolling data collection and analysis laboratory of the criminal investigation department, measure a crime scene with the latest equipment, get to know the loyal robotic police dog SPOT or take a look at the maneuverable police boat "WSP 31". Experts from all areas will be on hand to answer your questions and talk to you.
The "Friends and Helpers" also offer an exciting program for younger guests: Not only do the numerous vehicles want to be explored - there are also mounted police officers from the Landesreiterstaffel to experience and the little guests can already see if the police uniform suits them and take a souvenir photo with parts of the equipment.
There are even more blue lights on the neighboring "rescue route": Here, heavy equipment is waiting to be explored behind the numerous rollers and drawers of several large fire department vehicles. But it's also possible without blue lights: the mile also offers the opportunity to find out about the work of North Rhine-Westphalia's constitutional protection officers or the Cyber Security Coordination Office from the Ministry of the Interior.
With VR glasses, visitors can also take an exclusive virtual tour of the state government's "Situation Room" - the crisis management team's situation center. Herbert Reul's office can also be entered virtually.
