The LZPD NRW took part in Girls' Day again in 2025. Thanks to the active support of many colleagues at the Duisburg site and in the branches, the day was a great success.
The aim of Girls' Day is to showcase professions in which women are outnumbered. As the service and technology authority of the North Rhine-Westphalian police, we have a number of professional fields to offer in which (still) significantly less than 40 percent of women work.
While in the workshops in Bochum, Brühl, Cologne, Linnich, Selm and Wuppertal, the schoolgirls were given an insight into the apprenticeship as an automotive mechatronics technician, the participants in Duisburg were able to get a taste of the training courses for system electronics technicians and IT specialists and find out about the dual course of study in administrative informatics, with colleagues from IT and the workshop sharing their experiences and encouraging the girls to be open to technical careers.
In Duisburg, the participants were given an insight into the training workshop and the Innovation Lab. Among other things, the girls were able to test their manual skills in soldering, take their first steps in programming and were given an excursion into the topic of AI. Under expert guidance, the participants were also able to try their hand at vehicle technology and work on various police vehicles.
At the end, the students received small gifts and a flyer showing all the opportunities for training and studying at the LZPD NRW at a glance, so that everyone could go home satisfied with a lot of new information.
We are already looking forward to Girls' Day 2026 and to receiving many applications from girls and young women!
