Bicycle theft continues to account for a high proportion of total crime in the municipalities.
Experience in other police authorities in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia has shown that marking bicycles can deter offenders and thus reduce the number of cases.
Since September 2016, all citizens registered in the Rhein-Erft district have been able to have their bicycles marked with a license plate.
Bicycle marking is free of charge for citizens.
The bicycles are marked with an individual license plate in the form of a sticker. The license plate is affixed to the bicycle frame in a clearly visible position to deter potential bicycle thieves. Similar to the seals on car license plates, it is destroyed when an attempt is made to remove it. Improper removal can result in scratches on the frame.
Important:
- Labeling is only possible in the city of the Rhein-Erft district in which you are officially registered!
- The duration of the bicycle labeling can be significantly shortened if the registration form is already filled out and brought to the appointment.
